Colonel Holiday defended the Whipple family and championed their right to own Pemberton, the estate which they purchased. But Clay McIver could not accept the idea of co-existence. Pru Whipple, Elijah's dauther, filled her days teaching school. And Ranny McIver, Clay's brother, found Pru's courage admirable. Burning and murder erupted before the peaceful hopes of the Quaker family could be realized.
