GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER by Anne Terry White

GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER

By

Publisher: Random House

Carver's story is endlessly fascinating, but is another biography necessary, when there is the recent and excellent Florence Means' Carver's George, published last year by Houghton Mifflin (see p.741). Both books follow a remarkably similar pattern of narrative with sensitivity, a sense of immediacy, an appreciation of the wealth of new theory and experimentation contributed by Carver to Southern agriculture. Here is a case in point; the average library does not need both biographies, excellent though both books are.
