Not another retelling of the plays, but an unusual account of a way in which one mother introduced her children, step by step, not only to the plays as they were written, but to an understanding of why they were written that way, how the stages looked, what costumes were worn, etc. Four plays are used: The Merchant of Venice, Midsummer Night's Dream, Julius Caesar and The Taming Of The Shrew. I was a skeptic -- and the book convinced me that it could be done that way.
