RABELAIS FOR BOYS

The author is perhaps hiding justifiably behind that Anonymous. He has selected and then translated outstanding passages from Rabelais' five volume satirefable. One cannot help but feel that with Rabelais, as with Swift, greater appreciation comes with maturity and an understanding of the philosophical and satirical implications behind the work. In this case the mere narrative framework remains: the translation has deleted all the richness and color (not purely the Gallic humor) of the Rabelasian vernacular. Let them wait.
