An American entry in Murder Revisited series, this, in spite of its heavy overlay of erudite misdirection (heretical folklore, ancient Spanish melodrama), still works up a pretty puzzlement. The campus at Berkeley, and the poet-translator Ashwin fore-swearing the scholastic for the sleuthing when murders call for his undivided attention. Solid -- after 17 years.
