KIRKUS REVIEW

More of the fairly nimble gambits of John Mannering, wanted but never tagged by the Yard as ""the Baron"". Bristow, his former pursuer, asks him to shadow Shayne suspected of smuggling jewels out of England. Shayne wins his support in providing funds from the contraband gems for Central Europe and in the course that follows which leads to murder, Mannering fends off the Yard as well as Shayne's enemies. Polished.
