IMPERATIVES by Anthony Ostroff

IMPERATIVES

By

Publisher: Harcourt, Brace & World

This is a slim volume of middling verse: Mr. Ostroff's form is rhymed, formal and quite pleasant, and his view is objective. He covers a wide range of minor subjects and insights and a few of the poems are fairly successful. However, on the the whole, the subjects are rather slight and the lone somewhat furry and personal. It is competent poetry that does not quite get off the ground either in brilliance of phrase or in breadth of concept. And while close enough to be recognizable, it is ultimately a little frustrating.
