Delay in the Sun was a delightfully refreshing and original story; Down Come the Trees was very disappointing. Now comes the third, and it is closer to Delay in the Sun in charm and manner, though somewhat slighter in substance. Again episodic, it is a story of an English country house, of the children who gave it life, and of the return of the family, now adult, and drawn from different parts of the world, trying, rather hopelessly, to recapture lost dreams. One feels that one is looking in from outside on lives at a moment when new influences, or torn pretenses are changing currents for the future. Delightfully written, and ending on a note of disillusion and sadness. Well above average in the light fiction school.
