By way of surveying the range of banking and finance careers, Klimley profiles a number of individuals--credit analyst, foreign-exchange trader, trust administrator, small-town bank president, stockbroker, and many more--who tell about the challenges, problems, rewards, and day-to-day duties of their jobs. Generally upbeat like all career books, this is nevertheless reasonably realistic about opportunities (""the heyday of security analysis seems to have drawn to a close"") and, in a section on preparation, forthright about naming more and less prestigious business schools. In-house training programs are also described--60-65% of Citibank's management trainees have advanced degrees, 40% at Chase. Klimley provides no simplified, systematic lists or charts for easy access to job descriptions, requirements, etc., but for young people seriously interested in a money or banking career she has compiled an informative overview of the field.
