THE NAVY AT WAR: Paintings and Drawings by Combat Artists

There are more than 100 paintings and drawings which are actual eye-witness records of naval action, some of them reproduced in color. But to me the power of the book lies in the combination of pictorial record and the excellent running commentary by Hanson W. Baldwin, which is fascinating in revealing not only the pattern of the Navy at war but details of engagements, functions of different types of boats, etc. which make up an impressive whole in this new war of combined operations.
