KIRKUS REVIEW

The purpose of this book is to provide the general historical, and geographic background necessary for an intelligent of the gospel narratives. The author, who is Archbishop of aspects of the political, social, and economic life of ancient feels are indispensable to a proper understanding of New Testament text is studded with apposite biblical references, and illustrated by photographs. The author writes simply, and his style is not without his material lacks originality both of content and of expression. Indeed all impression conveyed by the book is that it is a collection of not- prepared Sunday sermons rather than a consistent and considered effort It may be of interest to beginners' study groups or as supplementary read high school level, but, in the final analysis, any attention given the derive from the author's position rather than from his competence.
