KIRKUS REVIEW

Although this is a book primarily for the northwest and the Coast market, it is -- for everyone -- good Americana, good adventure, good biography. The story settles around the city of Seattle, with the emphasis on the years of building, from the youthful first settler, who injured himself with an ax on his first day alone -- on down through the gold boom. A dramatic story, which makes good reading, good frontier flavor.
