THE WINDWARD ROAD by Archie Carr

THE WINDWARD ROAD

By

Publisher: Knopf

A naturalist with a taste for adventure as a state of mind and equipped with the heart for it proves an absorbing storyteller as he wanders the Caribbean coasts in search of the facts behind the sea turtle lore. Even if one has never heard of a ""Ridley"", one finds himself following their mysterious trail with gusto. As Mr. Carr proceeds on his way, lying on his back to watch the sloths in Limon, noting the ways of the forests and the special mora forest of Trinidad, seeking the song of the paradox frog or digging for the nest of a trunkback turtle with the help of a woman, her horse and her dog, he savors acquaintances with folk of vari-color and culture. As a result of his work, he points out the need to save nesting beaches for the green turtle, once the food of Conquistadores and now that of gourmets. A book that will create armchair naturalists.
