JOHN PAUL JONES by Armstrong Sperry

JOHN PAUL JONES

By

Publisher: Random House

A subject made to order for the special gifts of Armstrong Sperry, whose sea books have won fame and prizes. His name has already appeared on the Landmark shelf with his The Voyages of Christopher Columbus(1950-p.423). Now he tells with gusto and enthusiasm the story of John Paul Jones, star of the American colonies' infant navy in the American Revolution- a star whose rise and fall was meteoric. Scottish born, with a heritage of hate towards England, John took his training in British ships, but was forced by a mutiny to flee from Tobago, and seek hostage under a new name, in Virginia. How he came to glory-and was as quickly forgotten-during the years of Revolution, makes superb reading. While not a fully rounded biography, it will capture interest for further research.
