FROZEN FIRE

Again the jungle (see Rain Forest 1947), but this time the Brazilian one as Pete Warner, a drug man for the American Pharmaceutical Association, and a young friend in search of another kind treasure, start out from Manaos to find a hidden city on the upper reaches of the Mingu River. Bud Chandler, the youngster, has asked to go with Pete because of an uncle who returned from the district with only a map and a handful of diamonds to speak for him. In need of money, Bud determines to find the treasure hinted at by his uncle's tragic expedition but there are other people in Manaos besides Pete who get wind of the hunt. Dom Pedro Solino, a questionable dealer in antiques, out his man Thomas Brown as their guide and once en route, Pete and Bud have their hands full. Besides the treasure, which comes to its own logical end, there are natives, piranhas and the jungle itself to deal with. Slightly romanticized but a well written account of the thrills and horrors that can lie in wait on such a trip.
