Twenty-six delightful poems, each celebrating a different shade or mood of the color green: spring greens or pea soup to eat, summer greens to run on, dark winter greens outdoors, even ""a low hill of wrinkled dollar bills"" to buy a present--all described in free verse. Lewin's cheerful watercolors capture the brightness and action of the language; the patterns of words and pictures complement one another on every page. A good introduction to free verse and the idea that words need not always run in rigid patterns; a pleasure for reading aloud. Dividend: a poetic introduction from Kermit the Frog.
