Hendrickson served as Chairman of the Senate subcommittee which made a study of teen-age transgressions, and this book is based on its findings and consists of the testimonies- and statistics- compiled in various cities the country over. It is by no means a hopeless indictment- but delinquency has doubled since 1940, and here are many of the contributory factors- from liquor and ""goofballs"" and ""bennies"", to parental dereliction due to broken homes and working mothers. Social and racial inferiority plays its part- and the gang is the offshoot of stigma; horror comics and television have stimulated the trend; and the schools, as well as homes, are held responsible for the patterns of crime which range from vandalism to violence... This is of course a live issue, and while the handling is not lively, the facts speak for themselves and allow pause for alarm- and positive action.
