CARMELLO'S CAT: The Story of a Roman Christmas

Three desires gratified in one Christmas season--to shelter the striped eat and her kittens, to get some new puppets, to learn the art of puppeteering from grandfather. The text is long and diffuse for the picture-book format, more successful in conveying some Roman customs of the indefinite past-or-present than in telling a story. The black and bitter-sweet wash drawings are only intermittently effective.
