The fifth report of the Anti-Defamation League, this is a ""description of corroding prejudice in America"" and an attempt to assay- wherever possible- the incidence of patterns of prejudice- the increase or decrease during the last decade based on polling techniques which in this particular field are quite fallible. Certain aspects of prejudice are the objects of intensive study here; the Klan (there were 51 incidents of mob violence in 1949) and the professional patriots (Gerald L.K. Smith, Joseph Kamp, Upton Close, Merwin Hart) and organizations; Paul Robeson and the ""Peekskill incidents""; attitudes- on a wider scale- and more specifically, the question of the quota system in colleges and professional schools; prejudice on the campus; in the field of sports- and concomitantly clubs; and more briefly in employment and housing. An objective presentation of some very disturbing material, this is for a professional rather than popular audience- although Winchell will be in there pitching.
