KIRKUS REVIEW

The MacLears father and son (17 years old)- were setting out on the Lucky Nuclear for the Grand Banks and the new cook had not arrived. When he did, young Kinney -- determined not to have to work in the galley himself, threw him a rucksack strap- and with a good throw, a hood catch and a good jump Geoff arrived on board. But Geoff was no cook. He believed he had ""bought"" a berth on a fortnight's trip. Instead he found himself a working hand on a fishing stoop bound for the Banks. Before the trip was over, Geoff was involved in some unnerving episodes and some severe tests of his courage and stamina. Ice bound on a berg with little chance for a trapped sub to escape complete disaster- these and some other exciting episodes provide breathless reading for teen agers.
