MR. HOUSE OF TEXAS by Arthur D. Howden Smith

MR. HOUSE OF TEXAS

By

Publisher: Funk & Wagnalls

The author gives a sympathetic picture of House and a fine portrait of Wilson. He shows their close alliance, with House representing Wilson in all sorts of delicate missions. He traces the change in Wilson from pacifist to advocate of the cause of the allies -- and on to the Versailles Treaty, the struggle for League participation -- and defeat. The break between Wilson and House, in spite of the author's fairness to both parties, still remains an enigma, and today, twenty years later, we are again paying for the defeat they sustained. Thoroughly readable and enlightening, but one wonders how much general interest there is now.
