Against the setting of Mount Ranier National Park, is told a thrilling adventure involving a game of wits and endurance, and skiing as both sport and means of escape. Three High School boys plan to spend a week's vacation camping in the mountains and skiing. What they'd not bargained for were two hardened criminals and a boy, Fred, in their pay. A sporting adventure turns into a bid for their lives. Throughout, skiing is talked, described, analyzed, as the boys try to teach Fred enough to implement his escape. The scenery, the excitement and thrill of the sport, are integral to the story. A glossary of technical terms make it possible to use ski lingo without stopping for explanation.
