TOO STEEP FOR BASEBALL

The crusade for physical fitness threatens to interfere with Dave Knight's plans to spend the summer watching all of the televised baseball games. His family has made arrangements to stay in a summer cabin in an area so remote that there is no electricity, and consequently no radio or television. Bribed with the promise of a seat at the World Series, Dave agrees to tear himself away from the Yankees. He quickly learns to appreciate the wilds, matching his enthusiasm for baseball with a new-found interest in the weather, which obligingly offers a hurricane. Dave's revelations about the outdoors are only superficially shared with the reader, and despite an earnest attempt to recreate the speech and feelings of a young boy, the character is not very convincing. Nothing very meteoric about this weather story.
