KIRKUS REVIEW

Geisert used his meticulously wrought etchings to excellent effect in an intricate puzzle book, Pigs from A to Z (1986); here, he uses the same technique for a perennial favorite. Beginning with a short quote from Genesis, he briefly retells Noah's story in simple but unexceptional prose. His illustrations hold much greater interest, showing fine details of the Ark's construction; a broad plain and a rocky mountain stronghold, seen from the air as well as from more conventional vantage points; myriads of beasts; the ark, complete, in cross section, empty and fully occupied, whole and in detail; and the drama of the sky, the rain, and the returning sun--there are enough intriguing details to reward lengthy perusal. A worthy companion to the other excellent Noah's Arks that are available.
