KIRKUS REVIEW

Above and beyond the usual call of Westerns this is high-style action plus the drama of human relations. For Major Bonesteele, through jealousy and bitterness, orders Captain Sain to carry the war to the Indians, sends him into a death trap. Another detail is sent out and Bonesteele evacuates the fort without warning his officers and men in the field. Sain saves the second expedition, and carries on to help the beleaguered members of Bonesteele's group and get his just rewards. White men worse than red men, and women taking over such of the story, dangerous times in the Southwest, all combined in literate adventure.
