EXPLORERS

From Columbus to Sven Hedin, this efficient survey of the lives of famous men whose works opened new territories to the western world, presents interesting reading and reference material. Fourteen chapters in all follow the routes of over twenty explorers of international importance. Initial post-Columbus voyages include those of da Gama, Magelian, Oroliana and Drake. When the scope clarified and desires became more specific there was the work of finding the northwest Passage, the route of the Mississippi, the lakes in Africa, the Poles north and south. Economical in presentation and aware of the historical forces that have shaped our last 450 years.
