A hard-bitten adventure story records the struggle for survival of Morgan Halsted, his daughter Linn, and Mike Clendon, a geologist, after the plane which Halsted is flying comes down in the British Columbian wilderness- leaving Halsted with a badly crushed foot. Halsted and Mike are two of an obstinate, rugged and pretty fearless kind, while Linn, after the years with her unpredictable father, has decided to marry a lawyer for security and comfort. During the days to follow, however, she must listen to Mike as he insists on shifting camps in the hope of reaching a hospital- Halsted's foot has become septic- and it is Mike who carries the older man on his back. This is no Cub Scout cuting-along with bears in the underbrush, there are glaciers to cross, a knifing wind, and little food; Halsted insists that Mike amputate his foot; and the journey- eventually by raft- brings them just in time to the hospital where Halsted's life can be saved... S.E.P. serialization confirms the sturdy excitement here for a masculine audience who will enjoy roughing it.
