VIOLENT VOYAGE

By

Publisher: McGraw-Hill

A gestured melodrama neither gains nor loses from its period setting- the middle of the last century, though it is to this that one can more charitably attribute the romantic excesses- and restraints- of those involved. Tom Blake, attracted by Helen, the wife of a noted poet, gives up the Navy to follow the Templetons to London- and write. Matthew Templeton becomes the victim of his addiction to laudanum and while Helen now knows that she loves Blake, she is not ready to leave Templeton at first. As her unhappiness increases, she assists Matthew to his suicide from an overdose, and Tom and Helen- taking other namestry to escape to America. They are followed by a vigilant police investigator, and after Helen makes her confession- a disaster at sea releases her from further prosecution... Perfervid.
