KIRKUS REVIEW

Adventure-romance and not top drawer. The setting, Alaska, and the best parts of the book deal with the settlers sent out by the government to farm virgin territory -- and of what happens. Young Carol is the central figure. She has returned to teach and to investigate her father's mine, and proves herself worthy descendant of pioneers.
