Blank verse narrative poem of the fortunes of war. Clyde, western Canada farmer who stays with his plough and in so doing faces the scorn of neighbors off to the war; he loses Lynn, whom he loves, to his friend Hugh, a Commando. Hugh is killed; Lynn who joins the Wacs, is blinded. Clyde is helped by Freya, Norwegian refugee, whom he marries though still loving Lynn. ""The unrecorded life behind the lines"" -- recorded.
