AN INHERITANCE OF POETRY

**A poetry anthology which parents and teachers can use judicially with younger boys and girls, and which older boys and girls will delight in exploring for themselves. A distinct, sensitive job, showing fine appreciation and wide knowledge of the field on the part of the editors. They have included the best of the acknowledged ""best"" found in conventional anthologies, but in addition, they have explored lesser known sources and come out with fruit of their search. Bits of Milton nudge songs from The Wind in the Willows or Alice Meynell, or exquisite Gerard Manley Hopkins. Traditional, anonymous and Ogden Nash go along with portions of the Bible, mountain ballads, Richard Grawshaw, Robert Herrick and a long list of the worthies. Here is stuff for all tastes -- more than teachers, librarians and most readers have encountered in some time- and then, an lagniappe, there is added a useful bit for music lovers, too. All the poems which have been set to music are marked with a clef, and at the end there is an Index of Musical Settings with particulars. It is a pleasure to find a poetry anthology which is unorthodox and emanates good taste, wide range, poetic insight.
