NO ODDS, NO VICTORY

The hangover of the war in general, and the suicide of Blanehard Nixon, as it affects some young men and women living on and off a New England college campus. Brooding and bungling their way back are John Gordon, an ex GI, ambivalent between a desire to teach and his father's construction business, lost, lonely and not given the direction he needs; Myra, the dead boy's mistress, a nurse, whose defiant despair is without hope; Julie, who had lost the husband she loved, who accepts a relationship which makes ""no promises, no demands, no commitments"" in order to remain invulnerable- but who eventually recognizes her love for John... A lot of aches and pains, and a suspicion that these people take themselves much more seriously than they should.
