KIRKUS REVIEW

From the beginning of the story, the reader is left on the outside trying to look in and follow events. However, once the plot about two boys camping out during an icy winter in Wisconsin gets underway, the reader sees the conclusion to the mysterious events almost immediately. A bachelor, also the town character, is suspected of hunting deer illegally. In the end, he and his cohorts are caught and the two boys--the Mill Creed Irregulars-return to their everyday Wisconsin life. A double mis-fire.
