In this adventure set in Wisconsin, he not only apprehends a group of train robbers, but predicts the crime and reveals the motive. An intense desire to emulate the Pinkerton men, impulse, and courage lead him to a position where he is half hero-half fool, an evaluation he manfully accepts.
