What starts out to be a nature study of antelope evolves into the story of one light buck and the prospector who had a hand in raising him. Using his pen as a camera, the author records the light buck's response to his environment -- to rainstorms and menacing and friendly animals. When a broken leg renders him helpless, the light buck is nursed back to health by an old man who regards him as a special pet. The habits of antelope in the Arizona strip and the interaction between one member of the breed and a human being has great potential for drama, never realized. Though this is an informative book it lacks the forcefulness to sustain attention.
