KIRKUS REVIEW

This volume reflects the life work of a poet of charm, warmth, skill and- above all- integrity. The collection includes about one hundred poems carefully culled from her previous volumes, and some fifteen hitherto unpublished. Miss Deutsch is well known to interested readers of many of the first class contemporary periodicals -- and to her devoted students in the classes in English Literature which she teaches in the Columbia School of Special Studies. These poems reveal a mature and still growing personality. Few poets make us know the real through the phenomenal as does Miss Deutsch. Worthy too of special mention are her sweet homeliness, her wit and fantasy, and her masterful translations, especially of Rainer Maria Rilke. Here is a poet who has arrived; her reputation deserves only to grow.
