Bakr is a ten-year old Bedouin shepherd boy, son of a Sheik. He is keen to be as important as his father, giving orders and doing deeds of prowess. He is severely called down for using a sling-shot on a worker, thereby learning that real leadership never comes from cruelty. In one terrific night when he is captured by an enemy tribe he learns to escape and to fight. Youngsters will be interested to know about the lives of those who live in the desert, where they talk of the vital ""Snake of the Foreigners"", the oil pipes. For third and fourth grades.
