n 597 A.D., when Pope Gregory sends Augustine to England to head a mission, Wolfstan, a native of the faraway isle, and his son seize the opportunity to see England. The conflicts between the pagan worshippers of the island and the invading Christians form exciting tapestry-like scenes against which the love story of Wolf and Fritha, a farmer's daughter is played out. Well written atmospheric tale, superior to If All the Swords In England (1961, p. 61, J-33) by the same author.
