Six white-washed houses near the railroad tracks--no pets allowed-- that Cumberland Place. Catless and dogless the place remained, until the arrival of Jenny, her father, and a smuggled-in pregnant cat. Five children on the row form the Secret Order of Tiddlers for the preservation of cat, kittens-- and amusement. Some funny conversations among the dirty-faced kids keep things moving in a book which is characterized by incidents rather than a unified plot. A comical book which is weakened by the fact that it is too long drawn out.
