Ruther offers a romantic thriller in which a woman finds strength and courage in dire circumstances.

Cat Donley is haunted by her past. The daughter of an alcoholic mother and a father who died by suicide, she has a profound desire to find true, lasting love. At a party, Cat meets Xander Xavier, and their whirlwind romance takes Cat into the heart of the Compound, the facility in which Xander serves as the administrative director of the Bodyguard Academy, which, as the name implies, trains men for bodyguard work. Although they struggle with fertility issues, the couple decides to find other ways to have a family, including adopting the child of academy accountant Zach Andrez. However, Xander’s life is a dangerous one, which could threaten their future; his predecessor in his position betrayed Mexican drug lord, El Torbellino, who now targets Xander and his men. When an attack on the Compound results in a tragedy, Cat is devastated but finds the courage to move forward and find the love she deserves. Ruther offers readers a sweet and heartfelt story with action scenes that will appeal to fans of various romance subgenres. Cat is a strong protagonist, the depiction of her resolve amid adversity and heartbreak will win the hearts of many readers. The novel effectively blends its action with a strong moral perspective on the dangers of illegal drugs, and its well-developed characters and fast-paced plot will keep readers attention. Although Cat’s loss is heartbreaking, audiences will admire her dedication to her own happiness and to protecting her family. Although the work is sometimes quite sad, many of Ruther’s characters find happy endings, giving the novel as a whole a pleasing tone of hope and empowerment.

An engaging novel that tells a tender story of finding lasting love in an unpredictable world.
