KIRKUS REVIEW

The shorter form- to great works, as some seventy odd plot summaries (which originally appeared as a weekly feature in the Sunday magazine section of the Philadelphia Inquirer) are collected here. The intention here is not to replace the originals, but to provide an incentive to read those you have never read, or a reference tool- for quick recall. In the volume of coverage, this cannot compare with Frank N. Magill's-Masterpieces of World Literature in Digest Form (Harper) which for twice the money offers more than seven times the content- or 510 condensations. The Wilson book has a short introductory biographical paragraph, while the Magill gives no biographical information but a brief critical appraisal, and includes contemporary material.
