ERIC NEEDS STITCHES

First, a bike accident and a bleeding knee, then a trip with Dad to the emergency room for stitches. Marino, an emergency room nurse who finds that psychologically prepared children are less traumatized and more cooperative, reviews the whole procedure--from the stretcher on wheels to the medicine that makes Eric squeeze his father's hand and yell (but also makes his knee numb so that the stitches ""don't hurt one bit!"") to the ice-cream-cone reward from his father for bearing it so well. With lots of photos that tell more about the facilities than does the rudimentary text, this could have a place in the ER waiting room, but it is too flatly utilitarian to be of much interest outside.
