Monday's child is fair of face,/ Tuesday's child. . . etc. When told to Peggy Day by the shoemaker, Mr. Faraday, this old verse reminds her that each of her brothers and sisters (seven in the family) was born on a different day (even the twins qualify: one was born five minutes before, the other five minutes after midnight). This is a case of making the shoe fit so each kid can have his day. Both forced and foolish, it has no existence beyond the family circle, no honest incident or characterization, merely highly contrived circumstances. This won't make anyone's day.
