Dramatic, double-spread paintings of weather--often at its wildest--will appeal to readers of this oversize book. Hurricanes, thunderstorms, tornadoes, snow, future climate, and the greenhouse effect all appear. But, unfortunately, the accompanying text--confined within superimposed columns--is so abbreviated that it is often confusing, and many comments are not at all helpful. What to do in a weather emergency?. ""In a smog, one should, if possible leave town."" Or: ""If you are caught in the open in a hailstorm and cannot find shelter, put your hands over your head or put something such as a folded coat over it."" Record losses of life due to weather disasters are also included. The attractive, labeled endpaper paintings of familiar cloud forms are useful. Index.
