In the new ""Science Starter"" series, each of these lively hands-on activity books provides some explanation, several color photos, and simple experiments. Bouncing and Bending Light describes how light travels in straight lines, creates shadows, reflects, and refracts. Projects include a simple periscope, a mirror maze, shadow puppets, and a kaleidoscope. Color and Light introduces color messages and camouflage, rainbows, perception of color, colored light, sky colors, and colors caused by interference; projects include making a water prism and a color spinner, magic-marker chromatography, and feather rainbows. While the scientific explanations here are extremely brief and some of the projects slight, the colorful format is sure to attract readers. Each book includes a page of odd facts plus a glossary and index.
