SHADOWS ON THE VALLEY

This isn't a Kitty Foyle, but it will get some of the same market, because the Main Line (outside of Philadelphia) will enjoy ferreting out their blue bloods and the rest of the hard from among the characters. Chester Valley is the scene of a modern story, with conflict tense in the wide circle of an old established family, a family growing rotten at the core, without knowing it, and still assured of its place in the sun. There's a central romance between a daughter of the clan and an outsider; there's new blood brought in when a youngish couple settles down for a year; there are hunting scenes and sub-plots involving various members of the family and some realistic pictures of the lovely rolling countryside beloved by all who know the ""Great Valley"". It rings true as a picture of a passing phase of American life.
