I KNOW A POLICEMAN

On a presumed visit to a classroom, Officer Glenn tells about some of the jobs of policemen in and out of uniform in various branches of the department; he also follows a rookie from training to precinct and into the station house. The style is standard reader, second grade, the tone is uplifting (""Policemen don't like to give tickets, but they must prevent accidents""), and the total effect (including the illustrations) is a dullness undeserved by the subject. A supplementary source for small town and suburban schools as needed, but far too sanguine for most city children.
