A book to read to an older sibling, who will get a kick out of Davey's difficulties with baby Jeremy while Mother takes a shower, dries her hair, changes her dress (after Jeremy spills carrots on the first one), and shouts suggestions to Davey all along. As he tries to give Jeremy his baby food, Davey does his best to ""smile and make him think you're playing a game"": ""Look, Jeremy, I'm Harold, the ice-cream store man. I'm making a malted, la-lah, la-lah. Here you go-o-o-o-o-o-O-O-OH!"" There's some funny, close-to-home dialogue between Davey and Mother, and Alexander's uncooperative, wonderfully expressive baby would surely steal the show if Davey and Mother didn't hold their own so delightfully.
