A first time in English for the manifold aspects of la fiesta brava, this is the result of six years of research and work, and from ""A"" (abanico) to ""Z"" ('Zurito') the Spanish terms are translated and defined; biographies are capsuled; technicalities are described. Another first is the complete Reglamento Taurino, the translation of the official bullfighting rules as observed in Spain and Latin America. There is a chart of matadores (20th century); the ganaderias (ranches), their colors and their brands are listed and identified; there is a bibliography of non-fiction and fiction, foreign and English. All of which should make this welcome among the aficionados -- but the selection of photographs -- and there is an elegant sufficiency of them -- offers excellent visual aid for the material in the text, as do the drawings of Roberto Domingo and many diagrams. A cannot-live-without for bullfight followers.
