WILL ROGERS, THE BOY

Another biography of Will Rogers, this time with the emphasis on a Lincolnesque boyhood. Beginning with Willie's attempt at a very tender age to rope a steer, the story follows his early adventures in schools, on the ranch and abroad. Many of the legendary incidents are included- Will's honest efforts to pay for a turkey he had killed; his generous change of heart toward a poor ""nester"" who had shot his steer; his last gambling game; and the introduction of talking in his rope act. The last chapter briefly summarizes his later career. An easy, entertaining story with the never-failing fascination of authentic cowboy background.
